This site was created by Coffs Harbour City Library to celebrate 50 years of public library services to the Coffs Harbour community.
50 Years 50 Stories was launched on 15 April 2014 and aims to promote the library’s history and its impact on the community to library members and the general public.
The site includes narratives on the history and development of Coffs Harbour City Library, including photographs, online oral history interviews and streaming video.
Library staff will be regularly publishing new stories to the site throughout 2014 until all 50 Stories for 50 Years are completed.
Coffs Harbour Shire Council established the library service in 1964, with the library being part of the Civic Centre complex on the corner of Vernon and Castle Streets. Coffs Harbour Library was officially opened on 15 April. It moved to a purpose-built building in Castle Street in the early Seventies before moving to its current home on the corner of Coff and Duke Streets in 2000.
The Library would like to thank all participants for contributing their stories to this site and would like to also acknowledge the State Library of NSW for providing grant funding for the project.
